Abstract
The Netherlands' Directorate-General for International Cooperation (DGIS) has awarded the 'Toward Sustainable Clusters in Agribusiness through Learning in Entrepreneurship (2SCALE)' project to a consortium of IFDC, ICRA, and BoP Inc. The project aims to improve rural livelihoods, nutrition, and food security in eight partner countries in Africa and Nigeria. 2SCALE focuses on developing robust and viable agribusiness clusters and value chains, contributing to food security and increased water use efficiency. The project leverages public-private partnerships (PPPs) with Dutch and other private-sector partners to maximize its impact. It also aligns with the Netherlands' development policy, promoting food security, sustainable agriculture, and peace and security in post-conflict countries. By the end of the project, it aims to increase agricultural productivity, income, and market access for smallholder farmers and SMEs, while generating a marketable surplus of 1.7 million metric tons of cereal equivalents. The project also addresses the challenges of poor soil fertility and low fertilizer use in Sub-Saharan Africa through the African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP), which supports the development of functional fertilizer markets and private-sector initiatives. Through its activities, 2SCALE aims to significantly improve Africa's agricultural production, food security, and economic growth.
