Abstract | This report focuses on the growing advocacy for UDP (urea deep placement) technology in Bangladesh. With support from USAID, the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) conducted demonstrations and studies to showcase the effectiveness of UDP technology in improving rice yields and reducing fertilizer use. Farmers in Bangladesh have expressed enthusiasm for UDP due to its labour-saving benefits, reduced fertilizer and weeding costs, and overall positive impact on crop growth. The report also highlights the development of a urea briquette applicator prototype for transplanted rice, which aims to simplify and streamline the process of deep placement of urea supergranules. Additionally, the report provides updates on other initiatives and collaborations undertaken by IFDC, including technical assistance to the Egyptian Fertilizer Development Center and a regional training program on port handling of mineral fertilizers in the Asia/Pacific region. | |
