Abstract
This study focuses on understanding national fertilizer consumption in Zambia from 2014 to 2018, investigating consumption patterns by region, agro-ecological zones, crops, and fertilizer nutrient types. The research employs both desk study and empirical data collection methods, using government departments, agencies, and private sector stakeholders as data sources. The study examines the agricultural sector in Zambia, its farming systems, agro-ecological zones, and the role of fertilizer in enhancing productivity. The paper analyzes the fertilizer market structure, distribution channels, and the impact of the Farmer Input Support Program (FISP). Key findings reveal trends in fertilizer use among small-scale farmers, the expansion of e-voucher programs, and the role of the government in fertilizer procurement and distribution.
