Abstract | This report highlights the involvement of the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) in a World Bank mission to review and assess Bangladesh's fertilizer sector. The mission, which took place from June 6-21, aimed to update the World Bank's knowledge of the sector, evaluate its development, identify critical issues and policies, and explore opportunities for improvement. The report outlines discussions with government officials and various organizations involved in the fertilizer industry, including the Ministry of Industry, the Planning Commission, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). The report emphasizes the need to develop a cost-effective and socially sensitive fertilizer sector in Bangladesh. Recommendations made by the mission include establishing a monitoring and evaluation system for efficient sector operation, implementing a uniform pricing policy, and exploring measures to improve economic viability. | |
