AbstractFertilizer application is essential for optimizing cassava production, improving both yield and soil health. Fertilizers provide vital nutrients that support cassava growth, including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and sulfur, which are required in varying amounts for healthy plant development. Cassava, particularly in Nigeria, requires high levels of potassium, a nutrient essential for root development, while sulfur deficiencies in local soils necessitate the use of fertilizers like the newly developed 3.5:13:34:4.5 NPKS blend. This fertilizer provides a high potassium content (34%) along with sulfur (4.5%) to address common nutrient deficiencies. While NPKS supports cassava growth, it is low in nitrogen, which can be supplemented through top dressing with urea to ensure healthy vegetative growth. Proper fertilizer application methods, such as broadcasting, band placement, and ring placement, are crucial to optimize nutrient uptake while minimizing fertilizer loss. The paper outlines best practices for fertilizer application, including the appropriate timing, amounts, and techniques to ensure a successful cassava harvest. Moreover, proper storage of fertilizers and purchasing from reputable suppliers is emphasized to maintain product quality and efficacy.
