Abstract | This factsheet analyzes fertilizer demand in Senegal for 2021, focusing on seasonal variations among key crops during the major (long rains) and minor (short rains) seasons. The major crops under review include groundnut, maize, millet, sorghum, rice, and cotton, with specific periods identified for sowing, growing, and harvesting, highlighting peak fertilizer demand. Data from 2011 to 2020 reveals a significant reliance on urea, which comprised 57% of fertilizer imports in 2020, followed by NPK and MOP. The trends in nutrient consumption indicate a strong preference for nitrogen-rich fertilizers, reflecting agricultural practices aimed at enhancing crop yields. | |
