| Abstract | This material discusses the initiative undertaken by the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) under the USAID-funded Bureau for Resilience and Food Security (BRFS) grant, focusing on the Feed the Future Sustainable Opportunities for Improving Livelihoods with Soils (SOILS) Consortium. The initiative aims to address global food system challenges by promoting healthier and more sustainable agricultural practices, particularly emphasizing soil health and fertility. It aligns with the United Nations Food Systems Summit's call to shift towards more productive, resilient, and sustainable food systems. The SOILS Consortium operates globally, responding to the needs of USAID Missions across various countries, with a strong emphasis on research, innovation, and collaboration. Key focus areas include inorganic fertilizer-based systems, integrated soil health and fertility management practices, and cross-cutting activities such as economic analysis and data management. The approach involves site-specific recommendations for balanced fertilization based on georeferenced field trials and advanced decision support tools. This initiative seeks to transform agriculture by generating practical, profitable, and scalable solutions that contribute to healthier and more productive farming systems worldwide, ultimately improving food security and livelihoods. | |
