Abstract
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cheminy-Atar road in Kween District, Eastern Uganda, was a critical but dilapidated link affecting over 13,000 potato farmers. Heavy rains often rendered it impassable, disrupting transport and reducing farmers' produce shelf life. The road's rehabilitation under the IFDC's REACH-Uganda Project aimed to improve market access and community services. Amidst the pandemic, the road's completion facilitated essential transport for agricultural inputs and produce, reducing travel time and costs by up to 50%. It also enhanced access to healthcare and emergency services, supporting COVID-19 awareness efforts. The project's sustainability includes community involvement for road maintenance, ensuring lasting benefits for local resilience.
