IFDC Report, Volume 38, No. 1
Abstract
This material provides an update on the work and progress of the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) in Bangladesh. Since 1975, IFDC has collaborated with the government of Bangladesh, ministries, farmers, agro-dealers, research institutions, and the fertilizer industry to support agricultural development. The report highlights IFDC's projects, including the Fertilizer Distribution Improvement (FDI) project, which improved fertilizer warehousing, transportation, and distribution systems. Privatizing fertilizer marketing through FDI-II led to increased fertilizer use and agricultural production. IFDC also contributed to value chain development and trade expansion in poultry and high-value crops through the Agrobased Industries and Technology Development (ATDP) project. Furthermore, IFDC supported introducing and expanding fertilizer deep placement (FDP) technology. The report emphasizes the achievements of Bangladesh in overcoming challenges and achieving food security through the efforts of smallholder farmers, agro-dealers, and other members of the agricultural value chain. It also highlights the importance of continued attention and collaboration to improve fertilizer marketing and use in Bangladesh.
