Abstract
The AfricaFertilizer.org (AFO) initiative, launched in 2009 and hosted by IFDC, serves as a critical hub for fertilizer data in sub-Saharan Africa. This paper outlines the collaborative efforts of AFO and its partners, including Development Gateway, to enhance fertilizer statistics through country-specific dashboards. The initiative targets data gaps in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, and five additional countries, fostering informed policy-making to support agricultural development. A recent workshop in Maputo, Mozambique, aimed to validate fertilizer statistics from 2015 to 2022, providing a platform for stakeholders to analyze import, export, and consumption data. The workshop's outcomes included validated statistical outputs and feedback on the VIFAA dashboard, designed to improve data visualization and accessibility. Challenges identified during the workshop highlight the need for improved regulatory frameworks, technical assistance, and stakeholder collaboration to enhance fertilizer use and market efficiency in Mozambique. The paper concludes with recommendations for both private and public sectors to streamline data collection processes and increase fertilizer accessibility for smallholder farmers.
