Abstract
This report provides details on Ghana data validation conducted on the 12th and 13th of March 2024, with an emphasis on 2023. The analysis is based on products with the highest quantities. Official data was obtained from the Ghana Statistical Service and Customs and data from the private sector on organic production. It was noted that there is no production of inorganic fertilizers in Ghana and few producers of organic fertilizers. Fertilizers are imported in bulk, blended into formulations, and distributed to agro-dealers. Fertilizer imports decreased by 40% in 2023, mainly because the government of Ghana could not continue with seed and fertilizer subsidy programs. About 95% of the fertilizers imported in Ghana in 2023 were from 12 countries, with 38% of NPK coming from Switzerland, 26% from Belgium, 14% from China, and 13% from Italy. Re-exports from Ghana decreased by 60%. The consumption of fertilizer was reduced by 30% from 2022 to 2023.
