Abstract | This FertiNews highlights critical developments in the fertilizer sector across sub-Saharan Africa, emphasizing the need for effective financing solutions to enhance food security. The USAID-funded EnGRAIS project, led by the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC), hosted a webinar with over 240 stakeholders to address fertilizer financing challenges and propose solutions, including the establishment of guarantee funds, innovative financing policies, and enhanced public-private partnerships. The report also reviews national fertilizer market trends in West, East, and Southern Africa, noting significant price changes and supply stability in various countries. Notably, Senegal is set to construct a $1.54 billion urea plant, while the African Development Bank is facilitating access to fertilizers for smallholder farmers in Uganda and Mozambique through credit guarantees and grant funding. The findings underscore the ongoing efforts to revitalize the fertilizer sector, aiming to unlock its potential to support agricultural productivity and food security. | |
