| Abstract | Fertilizer application plays a critical role in enhancing cassava productivity, with the new NPKS (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, and Sulfur) compound fertilizer designed specifically for cassava cultivation. This specialized fertilizer contains 3.5% Nitrogen, 13% Phosphorus, 34% Potassium, and 4.5% Sulfur, providing the essential nutrients required for optimal cassava growth and high yields. Cassava, being potassium-intensive, benefits from the higher potassium content in NPKS compared to regular NPK fertilizers. Additionally, sulfur, often deficient in Nigerian soils, is supplied by NPKS, further promoting healthy cassava growth. However, due to its lower nitrogen content, the inclusion of Urea fertilizer is recommended to ensure balanced nutrition and optimal growth. The proper timing and method of application are essential for maximizing fertilizer efficiency, with guidelines for both band and ring placements around the cassava plants. The correct application rates (200 kg NPKS and 120 kg Urea per hectare) and storage practices are crucial to ensure the longevity and effectiveness of these fertilizers.
