Abstract
This report provides an update on the work and progress of the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC). It highlights its collaboration with the Consortium for the Sustainable Development of the Andean Ecoregion (CONDESAN). CONDESAN is a consortium of scientists, policymakers, and development specialists formed in 1992 to understand and promote the sustainable development of the Andean region. The report focuses on developing an innovative Tradeoff Decision Support System (DSS) that integrates various scientific disciplines to quantify agricultural systems' economic, environmental, and health tradeoffs. The Tradeoff DSS aids policymakers, researchers, and development specialists in making informed decisions and analyzing policy objectives. Additionally, the report discusses the Fertilizers and Sustainable Agricultural Development (F&SAD) project, which aims to increase fertilizer use and improve its efficiency in West Africa by promoting integrated soil fertility management practices. The project addresses constraints to fertilizer adoption and focuses on supporting small farmers through partnerships with governmental and non-governmental organizations. The report highlights positive results from the F&SAD project, including increased nutrient recovery rates and crop yields through integrated soil fertility management strategies.
