AbstractThe utilization of Mussoorie rock as a direct application fertilizer in southern and eastern India has been impeded by significant losses of powdered material during shipping and handling. To address this issue, researchers at the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) have demonstrated that mini granulation of the fine rock can eliminate these losses. Moreover, the researchers have developed a partial acidulation/granulation process to produce a granular material with water-soluble P20S, enabling expansion into areas with neutral soils. The project, sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Pyrites, Phosphates, and Chemicals Ltd. (PPCL), aims to tap into India's indigenous phosphate rock resources, potentially saving millions of dollars in foreign exchange. Implementing research findings through establishing a pilot plant in India and subsequent field trials will benefit Indian farmers by providing an affordable alternative to imported fertilizers. Additionally, the project will generate employment opportunities through phosphate rock processing.
