| Abstract | This report highlights the activities and interventions conducted by the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) in collaboration with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) under their cooperative agreement. The agreement aimed to support the Bureau for Food Security (BFS) objectives related to the Feed the Future (FTF) initiative. The IFDC aimed to enable smallholder farmers in developing countries to increase agricultural productivity, generate economic growth, and practice environmental stewardship through responsible fertilizer management and participation in input and output markets. Under the agreement, IFDC focused on two main workstreams. In Workstream 1, IFDC's Soil and Plant Nutrition Program developed and validated technologies and practices to address nutrient management issues, enhance agricultural intensification, and build climate resilience. Activities included refining fertilizer technologies for increased nutrient use efficiency and climate resilience, conducting field research in stress-prone areas, implementing balanced soil-plant nutrition programs, assessing fertilizer quality, and identifying critical soil fertility issues. In Workstream 2, IFDC's Markets, Economics and Policy Program conducted evidence-based policy analysis to support policy reforms and market development in the agricultural sector. The program aimed to accelerate agricultural growth through improved technologies, particularly fertilizers and complementary inputs. Activities included analyzing fertilizer subsidy programs, developing strategies for private-sector agribusiness growth, assessing the impact of policy changes and supporting programs, conducting economic studies, and developing indicators for fertilizer access. The document also highlights the cross-cutting issues IFDC addresses, including learning agendas and knowledge management. The organization conducted various outreach activities and disseminated research outcomes and findings through different channels. | |
